Saudi crown prince Abdullah, Powell meets in Gasablanca
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 4/10/2002
The Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz has called on the US the need to work in order to stop the blood- shed practiced by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people and to pressure Israel to oblige it pulling out of the occupied Palestinian territories.
In statements he made following his meeting in Casablanca, Morocco, on Monday evening with the US secretary of State Colin Powell, the Saudi crown prince stressed the need that the US should carry out its role as a ME peace co-sponsor in a just and firm way, noting that the American position towards what is taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories is not in compliance with the weight and size the US enjoys in the world.
In his statements which were quoted by the Saudi News agency, the Saudi crown prince said: " we and the world as a whole have realized that the weight of the US and its role are not in compliance with the state of stalemate, ignorance and margining made by the Israeli government, thereby violating every humanitarian and moral effort to this effect."
The Saudi crown prince who is currently visiting Morocco stressed that the practices of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon will fail the efforts made by the US administration to fighting terrorism and gravely affect the American interests in the Arab states. He warned against the continued Israeli aggression which might inflect the American interests and credibility.
The Saudi crown prince also stressed that the Arab nation which has already raised the banner of peace and the initiative for a just and comprehensive solution will not bargain her rights and is not unable to shoulder her historical responsibility before God and the peoples.
The Saudi crown prince discussed with the US secretary of State who started his tour on the Middle East and Europe by visiting Morocco, the Palestinian question, the Israeli invasion of the Palestinian territories and its results in besieging and killing the Palestinians. The two sides also discussed the Arab peace initiative and means of establishing just and comprehensive peace in the region.
On the Saudi side the meeting was attended by the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal. While the American side was attended by members of the American delegation accompanying Powell. The US delegation includes The US undersecretary of state for the Middle East affairs William Burns, the US under secretary of State David Satter-.Field and the spokesman for the US state department Richard Boutcher
