Pan-Islamic body chief slams Israel's state terrorism

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC, based in Jeddah) on Tuesday decried "the state terrorism" perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people, their leadership and institutions.

"Israel humiliates the Palestinian people on a daily basis, and uses most deadly weapons of destruction to kill the Palestinians, assassinate their leaders, demolish their houses, destroy their fields and occupy their cities and villages," Dr. Abdelouahed Belkeziz, told the ongoing 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Israel denies the Palestinian people their most basic rights, including their right to self-determination, he said.

Israel is carrying on such a policy despite world decry of these illegal practices, which raised a great wave of denunciation, including on the part of United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, said the OIC chief.

He equally denounced all attempts aimed at distorting the national struggle of the Palestinian people and equating this struggle with terrorism.

Belkeziz lauded the decision of the Human Rights Commission, asking U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Mary Robinson, to conduct a fact-finding mission in the Palestinian territories and in Israel.

Ms. Robinson will head Wednesday for the Palestinian territories on top of a delegation including former Spanish Premier, Felipe Gonzalez and South African political leader, Cyril Ramaphosa.
