Spanish queen takes part in Alexandria library inauguration on April 23

Spanish Queen Sofia will take part in the inauguration of the Alexandria Library on April 23 in her capacity as a member of the honorary council of the Library.
In statements on Monday, the cultural counsellor of the Spanish embassy in Egypt said his country presented some 5,000 microfilms of ancient Arab manuscripts to the Library.
Also, he added, that the Spanish agriculture ministry and Catalonia Province presented the library with a major collection of documents, and historical publications and manuscripts.
The production and printing of these manuscripts came in implementation of Queen Sofia's directives and in cooperation with the Spanish national museum and the Spanish university, he said.
The cultural counsellor pointed out that the Spanish Association of Alexandria Library Friends was established in 1994 after the declaration of Aswan on reviving Alexandria library had been issued. He noted that the association had presented a 2500grant to the library whose costs hit 35 million pesetas.
