Sanaa looms to expel the American ambassador
Yemen-USA, Politics, 4/9/2002
The Yemeni government has loomed that it will expel the US ambassador in Sanaa Edmond Hall if he does not take into account diplomatic norms and traditions common among countries.
The Yemeni paper al-Meithaq, the mouthpiece of the ruling party in Yemen criticized the behaviors of ambassador Hall and said that he behaves like a "higher commissioner for his country rather than an ambassador for a foreign state."
The paper added that since his arrival in Yemen, the US ambassador behaves as if he is " a higher commissioner, rather than a mere ambassador. He moves from one government's establishment to another, talking arrogantly and giving orders while talks with certain Yemeni officials in a language that lacks diplomacy that an ambassador should has."
The paper added that the American ambassador, a former chairman for the terrorism fighting office at the US state department always instructs persons whom he meets on the way they should talk or deal with him and with the US, under the pretext and claims that this matter is among the requirements of Yemen's contributions to fighting terrorism, otherwise Yemen will suffer a real danger.
Al-Meithaq considered that "the US ambassador has forgotten himself that Yemen is a free and independent country and rejects any interference in its internal affairs or violation of its sovereignty and national decision from any side whatsoever."
Worthy mentioning that the US ambassador in Sanaa Edmond Hall had assumed his post just one year before in succession of ambassador Barbara Budin who served in this post for five years.
