Europeans, Americans in Damascus observe a sit-in to protest Israeli crimes
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 4/9/2002
Scores of Europeans and Americans who live in Syria on Monday observed a sit-in in front of the European Commission headquarters in Damascus, in denunciation of what many said are "war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the unarmed Palestinians."
The participants in the sit-in carried banners condemning the Israeli occupation and describe Sharon as a terrorist Nazi who ever repeats the Sabra and Shatilla massacres in the Palestinian territories after Lebanon. They also called for protection of the unarmed Palestinians from the inhuman acts of killing committed by the Israeli forces.
The observers of the sit-in also carried pictures that reflect "the crimes committed by the Nazi Sharon against children, women and the elderly in Palestine." They called, in a notification of protest delivered for the European Commission to sever the European relations with Israel and to boycott it economically because it commits war crimes that are in contradiction to the international laws by occupying the territories of other people.
The people who observed the sit-in also called on the European Union to carry out its due role as an effective force in the world that works for attaining peace on the ground and working for providing necessary medical aids and pressuring Israel to permit the International Committee of the Red Cross to help the wounded and not to obstruct the work of the medical care teams as well as to dispatch UN forces in order to separate the israeli occupation forces from the Palestinians and to ensure the protection for the Palestinian civilians.
They highly appreciated the position taken by the Belgian parliament to boycott Israel and stressed in statements to SANA that they will observe an open sit-in before the EU headquarters in order to "express their denunciation and condemnation of the brutal crimes committed by the Nazi Sharon against the Palestinians" and that they will observe another sit in on April 14 at the same place.
