A forthcoming ministerial reshuffle in Damascus
Syria, Politics, 4/9/2002

The London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily issued on Monday quoted Syrian circles described as well-informed that a ministerial reshuffle will be made shortly on the government of the prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro and this will target several ministries including the ministries of justice and social affairs and this will be in the context of the continued evaluation process of the performance of the state's various departments.

These circles explained that the expected reshuffle will include several ministers being members in the former government and continued in the current one or among those who recently joined the current government.

The same circles indicated that large amendments will also be made at the level of the deputies of ministers and directors of public administrations in several ministries including the ministry of information.

The paper indicated that the expectations of these circles were made after President Bashar al-Assad had presided on Saturday a meeting for the Syrian government, during which he stressed the need of accelerating the administrative reform process in the ministries through foundng a work team method as a base to work in the institutional framework.
