Royal wedding: King Mohammed cancels popular festivities
Morocco, Local, 4/8/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI has decided to cancel the popular festivities that were to mark his wedding, scheduled for this week, and to celebrate the event in a family ceremony, Official spokesman for the Royal Palace, Hassan Aourid, announced on Monday.
The decision was made in view of the escalation of tension in the Middle East and the plight of the Palestinian people at the hands of the Israeli occupation army.
"Following the events in the Middle East region, with their consequences and the tragedies befalling the Palestinian people, H.M King Mohammed VI, May God Assist him, decided to cancel the popular festivities, marking the king's wedding ceremonies, that were to be held in Marrakesh and in the Kingdom's various provinces and to celebrate the event in a family ceremony at the Royal Palace," said Hassan Aourid in a release.
