Peres, Bin Aliazer and Syria
Syria-Israel, Politics, 4/8/2002
The Israeli radio said on Sunday that the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aliazer and the foreign minister Shimon Peres are making efforts to urge the US and European states to pressure Syria to press the Hizbullah Party.
The radio said that the failure of such efforts will only leave before Israel an option to retaliate violently.
The radio quoted the Israeli daily Maareve as saying on Sunday that the political advisor for the Israeli prime minister said that despite all these developments, military sources said that the recent escalation on the northern border has been almost certain.
The paper, on the other hand, said that the Syrian army pulled out its forces from the Lebanese Bekaa. On the other hand, the radio quoted the US Washington Post as saying that the White House has fears that the Jordanian King Abdullah will be toppled or be obliged to shortly declare severing his country's relations with Israel.
