France concerned over French in a sit-in in solidarity with Palestinians in West Bank

The French foreign minister Hubert Vedrine expressed his concern over the fate of the French people who observe a sit-in in Ramullah in the West Bank in Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
A statement by the French foreign ministry said that Vedrine stressed in a telephone call he made on Saturday evening with the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres on the need of guaranteeing the safety of these French citizens. Vedrine also expressed the great concern of the French authorities over the operations of the Israeli forces against the Palestinians especially in Bethlehem.
On Saturday those French who are observing the sit in issued a statement in which they said they are under a violent siege and that they suffer hunger and thirst and are exposed to the fire of the Israeli tanks and machine guns.
They also stressed they are in a civilian mission to protect the Palestinian people. They called on the French President Jacque Chirac, the prime minister Lionel Jospin and the foreign minister Hubert Vedrine to interfere immediately to the Israelis to stop the massacres against the Palestinian people.
