The Iraqi vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan has stressed that what was achieved between Kuwait and Iraq during the recent Arab summit conference in Beirut as the first step on the right path, that relations between the two states should be, because they are "two sisterly and neighbor states."
In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyassah issued on Sunday, Ramadan added that what happened at Beirut's summit was the first difficult step after long years. He expected that the next step will be easier and of greater desire from the two sides.
On the question of the Kuwaiti prisoners, Ramadan stressed the need of joint work in order to complete the mission of searching for the missing.
Ramadan denied that Iraq's recognition of Kuwait's sovereignty to have had stemmed from fears or of an American strike for his country. He stressed Iraq's recognition of Kuwait as documented at the UN of Kuwait's internationally recognized border.
