Saudi police disperse massive demonstration in support of Palestinians

The chairman of the Saudi people's committee in support of Palestine Abdul Hameed al-Sheikh has announced that the Saudi police on Friday prevented thousands of demonstrators from gathering in front of the US consulate in al-Zahran, to the east of Saudi Arabia, and arrested several persons.

Al-Sheikh Abdul Hameed said in a statement to al-Jazeera TV satellite station in Qatar that the "Saudi security forces prevented thousands of Saudis from demonstrations in support of the Palestinians in support of the Palestinians before the US consulate in al-Zahran." He added that the security forces cordoned the area, arrested many persons among thousands of demonstrators who were walking towards the Consulate. He added he was among the persons who were prevented from taking part in the demonstration called upon by his committee, he chaired. But he did not indicate clashes to have had taken place between the demonstrators and the security men.

On the other hand, the Saudi minister of the Interior prince Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz warned that the authorities will not permit the organization of demonstration in the Kingdom.
