Jordanian prince and the American efforts
Jordan-USA, Politics, 4/6/2002
Former Jordanian crown prince Hassan Bin Talal -- brother of the late Jordanian King -- has warned that the American efforts for mediation to reach a cease fire in the Middle East is doomed to failure in case Washington ignores the economic and social problems in the unstable region.
In a speech he delivered before the International Affairs Council in Philadelphia, Prince Hassan added that the trip of the US secretary of state for the Middle East has to carry a serious concept for establishing stability in the region and it has also to deal with the roots of the real problems, including poverty.
Prince Hassan called for exerting more efforts to deal with the questions of waters and energy and the low living condition per capita in the Middle East throughout decades.
He stressed the need not to misunderstand the phenomenon of "the martyrdom operations" in the occupied Palestinian territories.
