Morocco's upper chamber condemns Sharon's aggression and barbarous crimes against Palestinian people
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/5/2002
The chamber of advisors (Morocco's upper legislative chamber) condemned, in a statement released Wednesday following an extraordinary session of solidarity with the Palestinian people, the aggression policy followed by Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, and his barbarous crimes against the Palestinian people, marked by killing Palestinians and besieging their president, Yasser Araft.
The advisors, who called this policy "the worst crimes against humanity" and "a violation of human rights principles" called humanitarian and human rights organization, the UN security council and parliaments worldwide to endeavor for bringing for trial authors of this Israeli policy.
After they expressed solidarity with the Palestinian president, symbol of the Palestinian people's struggle against Israeli occupation, the advisors said threats to ban Arafat from the territories is a serious violation to democracy, calling on all parliaments and democratic institutions worldwide to oppose and condemn this measure. They also renewed total support and backing to the Intifadah and Palestinian people struggle against the Israeli war machine and barbarous aggression and to defend their rights, including the return of refugees and the establishment of a Palestinian independent state, with Al-Quds as its capital.
The advisors pledged to extend financial assistance to the intifadah and called Moroccans and all Arab peoples to follow suit. Arab governments were urged to bring all forms of support, honor financial commitments made to the Palestinians, and suspend all normalization processes with the Jewish state, including the recalling of Arab ambassadors in Israel and the expulsion of Israeli ambassadors in Arab countries.
More and continuous efforts are needed by information professionals to denounce human rights violations by Israel, promote the international public opinion awareness on the plight of Palestinians and rally solidarity with the Palestinian people, says the advisors who agree that Israel has to withdraw from all Arab territories it is occupying in Palestine, the Golan Heights and southern Lebanon, that it is the right of Palestinians to establish their independent state with Al-Quds as their capital.
Of the Arab peace initiative, adopted by the Arab summit of Beirut (March 27-28), the special session welcomed it and hailed the UN security council resolution 1397 which consecrates the vision of two states co-existing in the region. The European Union's attitude regarding the middle east conflict was also welcomed as "unbiased and bold" by the advisors who called the Union to carry on efforts, while the USA was called to adopted fair and firm stance regarding the Israeli government policy and bring Tel Aviv to withdraw from the Palestinian territories.
Moroccan advisors asked Arab parliaments to dispatch delegations to permanent members of the security council to explain Arab stances' vision of the peace process and denounce Israeli hostile policy. They also said Sharon should be tried for crimes against humanity and an international force should be deployed in the territories to protect the Palestinian people and establish cease-fire.
The war declared by Israel, a few days after the Arab summit of Beirut, is an illustration of the Israeli government's bellicose policy and its refusal of the peace process, the chamber denounced.
