Yasser Arafat, in Baghdad

The name of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat was given to a large commercial street in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, as an expression "of pride over the militant stances of the Palestinian President in his confrontation of the Zionist aggression," according to Baghdad's governor Adnan Hamad.
"al-Karradeh street " to which Arafat's name was given links the capital's center to the southern part of the city. During night times the streets become a people's market for shopping as it includes various trade shops of different exhibits.
