Syria, Jordanian prince call for freezing Israel's membership in the FIFA
Regional-Israel, Sports, 4/5/2002

The Syrian Football federation has called on the International Federation for the Football FIFA to freeze Israel's membership and its activities in FIFA.

The chairman of the Syrian federation Farouk Buzo urged the FIFA chairman the Swiss Joseph Blater to rule out Israel's membership from the FIFA and to freeze all its activities.

In a message to Blater, Buzo said:" we are sure that you are very concerned over the issue of human catastrophe against the Palestinians because of the practices of the Israeli forces on the occupied Palestinian territories, despite of all peace efforts which were totally rejected by Israel proposed by the UN."

Buzo added: " As football is the most popular Game in the world which unites people to the principle of peace and deepening humanitarian values, we urge FIFA to rule out Israel's membership and freeze all its activities in it." Similarly the chairman of the Jordanian federation prince Ali Bin al-Hussein on Tuesday called on the FIFA to freeze Israel's membership and also from continental federations to freeze the activities of the Israeli sport clubs and not to organize games between any of its clubs and the Israeli sport clubs.
