Suez Canal developments ensure its future
Egypt, Economics, 4/4/2002

Suez Canal Chief Ahmed Fadel said yesterday that continuous efforts to develop the canal ensure that it will always be the most vital and safest waterway in the world.

Accompanied by Port Said Governor Moustafa Kamel, Fadel laid the foundation stone of a new LE60m water station in the city. The station will raise Port Said's water capacity to 370,000 cubic metres to meet increasing domestic and industrial needs.

Fadel and Kamel then raised the Egyptian flag over a new floating ship arsenal established by the Suez Canal Authority at a cost of $10m.

They also laid the foundation stone for a new harbour outside of the port to maintain and repair fishing boats, so that the old site can be used for industrial projects.
