Moroccan Jewish community dismayed by isolation imposed to Arafat

Secretary general of the council of Israelite communities in Morocco, Serge Berdugo, voiced the Moroccan Jewish community's "dismay over the isolation imposed to the President of the Palestinian Authority."

Berdugo lead a council delegation that was received Wednesday morning by the ambassador of Palestine to Morocco, Abou Marouane, called for an end to this "intolerable situation" in line with the UN Security Council resolutions. Renewing his backing to the Nobel Peace Prize holder in his struggle for the establishment of a viable and homogenous Palestinian State, Berdugo renewed the so-often repeated calls by the council of Israelite communities in Morocco for the establishment of a fair peace, guaranteeing security and dignity to all.

Berdugo who condemned the spiral of violence that plunges the region in bereavement said the council of Israelite communities in Morocco hails the "intensive diplomatic activity of H.M. King Mohammed VI, who, in line with the pure tradition of Alaouite sovereigns, endeavors with courage, lucidity and moderation to maintain the paths to dialogue open and to avoid the irreparable."

"The Moroccan Jewish community prays so that reason prevails and that the peace-bearing plan adopted by the Beirut Summit serves as a basis to an urgent and comprehensive settlement to the fratricidal conflict tearing apart the sons of Abraham," he said. The ambassador of Palestine expressed thanks to the council delegation for its sympathy and for its constant support to a political solution of the conflict. Besides Berdugo, the delegation included chairmen of the Israelite community of Casablanca and Fez, Boris Toledano and Armand Guigui, secretary general of the Israelite community of Rabat, David Toledano, and member of the Israelite community of Casablanca Elie Levy.
