Mubarak asks the government to prepare necessary aid for Palestinians

Egyptian Minister of Information Safwat Al Sherif said following the meeting of the Political Group Wednesday that President Honsi Mubarak reviewed and discussed all points of view examined by the political group over the past two days and an assessment of the situation in the light of the sweeping attacks by Isreaeli forces against Palestinian towns.

The President also reviewed the Arab and international situation and results of contacts made over the past days.

The Minister of Information said that foremost among the issues reviewed was the President's message to U.S. President George Bush in which he asked for immediate intervention to deal with the serious situation which is deterorating hour by hour. The President emphasized the necessity of taking serious action to save aggravating the situation.

In his message, President Mubarak stressed that it was necessary to make Israel carry out Security Council resolution 1402 and warned against the harmful and dangerous consequences of reluctance to intervene and its effet on security and stability in the area.

Minister of Information Safwat Al Sherif said that President Mubarak reviewed the results of contacts with a number of Arab leaders (whether announced or not) and also contacts with a number of European leaders, the latest being made with French President Jacques Chirac.

The Minister of Information said that in the light of reports and discussions with the Political Group, President Mubarak stressed the following:

Egypt places the supreme interests of the Egyptian people above all other considerations. The Egyptian position is dictated by the interest of the people away from emotion. Egypt is a state of institutions. The decision in Egypt is made by democratic institutions taking into consideration dimensions and facts of the situation.

Egypt supports, with all its weight, intenrational moves to bring about an international pressure which puts Israel before its responsibilities and exposes Israeli practices and its use of brutal military force.

The Minister of Information said that President Mubarak stressed that efforts will continue in the coming hours to save the area.

The Minister added that President Mubarak also stressed that Egypt supports Palestinian right. Egypt will never cease support the Palestinian people and their struggle to regain their usurped land and set up their independent state.The Minister of Information said that President Mubarak stressed that Egypt takes its own decisions and does not give in to any pressure of outbidding and manoeuvring. Egypt is alsways committed to facts and clarity.

The Minister added that President Mubarak fully appreciates all forms of popoular expression and symapthy with the Palestinian position and rejection and denunciation of Israeli practices. The President have full confidence in sincere feelings and patriotic sentiments of the people and youth. He is sure that they are fully aware of the interests of the people.

Minister of Information Safwat Al Sherif said that President Mubarak warned against the mouthpieces of instigation and outbidding that seek to manipulate the feelings of Egyptians and exploit their enthusiasm to do harm to their nation.

Egypt does not permit, either by hint or word, and does not accept anything which affects its national security in any way.

The Minister of Information said that President Mubarak asked the government to prepare the necessary aid for relief, housing, food and medicine to meet the needs of the Palestinian people.

The President directed that the Red Cross be contacted at once to carry these relief supplies and to be prepared to send doctors and nursing staff for treatment.
