Morocco's living forces denounce Israel's crimes, upper chamber holds special session
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/3/2002
The chamber of advisors, upper house of the Moroccan parliament, holds on Wednesday a special session of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The decision was made at a meeting of the heads of parliamentary groups held on Monday under the chairmanship of the chamber's speaker, Mustapha Oukacha.
Participants in the meeting have all condemned the siege imposed on President Yasser Arafat and the physical liquidation threats uttered against him in a desperate attempt to gag the voice of Palestine and its symbol, President Yasser Arafat.
They renewed backing to the Palestinian People's struggle and hailed their sacrifice to defend their homeland and their legitimate right to establish an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The participants equally hailed the role of King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and his tireless efforts to bring to a halt the attacks against the Palestinian territories and guarantee president Arafat's physical integrity.
Meanwhile, Moroccan political parties of all trends, trade unions, professional and civil society associations and ngos have all denounced the odious crimes perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces, the war they are waging against the unarmed Palestinian people and the siege they are imposing on the Palestinian President.
They called on peace-loving peoples in the Arab and Islamic world and worldwide to back the Palestinian people and urged the international community to take urgent moves to stop the genocide.
They equally denounced the backing of the United States and some European countries to these criminal acts that are a blatant violation to all international conventions and to basic human rights principles.
The Moroccan Association of Human Rights called, in a release issued by its section in kenitra, 40 Km north of Rabat, on the international community to put Sharon on trial by a penal court for his crimes against the Palestinian people.
Three opposition parties, gathered in a bloc called "Wifaq," sent a letter to the Moroccan Prime Minister urging the cabinet to initiate concrete moves to help the Palestinian people in the painful events they are going through.
These parties (Constitutional Union, the Popular Movement and the national Democrat Party) have also addressed messages condemning and denouncing the Israeli crimes to the ambassadors in Rabat of the permanent member countries of the Security Council and to the representative of the European Union to draw their attention to the serious situation prevailing in the Palestinian territories and urge them to shoulder their responsibility and take urgent action to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people.
Several other parties, including the parties gathered in the Democratic koutla (Arabic name of bloc) and the Moroccan Liberal Party handed the ambassador of the United States to Morocco, Ms Margaret tutwiller, a memorandum or a letter addressed to President Georges Walker Bush, urging the US government to intervene urgently to stop the Israeli military operations in Palestinian territories and guarantee President Arafat's physical integrity.
The Koutla parties (the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, the Istiqlal Party, the party for Progress and Socialism, and the Organization for Democratic and Popular Action) urged the US administration to adopt a fair and clear cut stand matching the logic of peace and security to spare the region and its peoples new tragedies and sufferings. They also called the US to play an active role in enforcing UN resolution 1402, that stipulates the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian territories, to pave the way to an end to the conflict in the region.
