Sharon, Bush and striking the Palestinians
Palestine-USA, Politics, 4/3/2002
the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah in its Tuesday's issue quoted Arab Gulf diplomatic sources in Washington as saying that the US President George Bush granted the Israeli prime Minister Ariel Sharon the full liberty to total eliminate what he calls the "Palestinian terrorists" within a period of time not to exceed the mid of April, as requested by Sharon and that Sharon promised not to damage Arafat and his senior aides of ministers and security leaders.
These circles quoted an official at the US State Department as saying that the question of expelling Arafat and senior Palestinian officials was not discussed between Sharon, Bush, Cheney and Powell. A fact which shows that the American leaders left for Sharon a "dangerous margin" between the war he is leading and eliminating the Palestinian leaders, which is the possibility of arresting these Palestinians, including Arafat and expelling them to Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon..
The Gulf circles which are close to the American administration said that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak informed the American President Bush, by telephone that he will not be able for a longer time to stay neutral without reacting towards Sharon concerning the "boiling Egyptian people," and that he will be obliged to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, which, by its turn leads to a later phase of no less military tension that brings back the Middle East to the cycle of destruction and disorder.
The circles indicated that Mubarak asked his foreign minister after his telephone call with Bush to convene a press conference in which he declared the extent of the deterioration of the relations with Israel, promising to take measures at appropriate time.
These circles also quoted Jordanian diplomats in Washington as saying that the Jordanian King Abdullah II received a telephone call from President Mubarak asking him to give his orders to his foreign minister to announce in a press conference also what threatens of taking place in measures against Israel.
The Jordanian diplomats said that the implications of these drastic events in occupied Palestine might force Cairo and Amman to expel the Israeli ambassadors in Egypt and Jordan and to declare freezing of relations or even severing them ultimately with Israel.
The Jordanian diplomats said if such measures will not work, King Abdullah and Mubarak may move together to Saudi Arabia to convene an emergency summit that might be joined by the Moroccan King and the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud to declare a united stand of the cordoning states ( Arab states bordering Israel) in addition to Saudi Arabia,. The diplomats added that such a summit might end by a military warning to prevent Sharon from liquidating hundreds of Palestinian resistance men or expelling tens of them to beyond the borders.
