Al-Qaddafi ridicules Arab armies and calls for sacking them

The Libyan President Muaammar al-Qaddafi on Monday led a huge demonstration in Tripoli in which thousands of the Libyans took part in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their President Yasser Arafat in confrontation of the Israeli military operations.

The demonstration which included more than 100,000 Libyans and Arabs living in Libya started from the al-Khadra square in the downtown of Tripoli.

In a speech he delivered before the demonstrators, the Libyan President said " our borders are open" and I defy the Arabs to open their borders to the Libyan volunteers to head for Jerusalem and to maintain solidarity with Abu Ammar (Arafat)."

Al-Qaddafi strongly criticized the Arab regimes. He questioned: " why do they (the Arab states) spend millions on their armies if they do not defend the Arab woman and the Arab child."

He also called on the Arab states to sack these armies and "to sell the tanks and the missiles as scrap." al-Qaddafi regretted that after the Arab states had given concessions that he described as "shameful" to get peace, while the Israeli and American answer was killing scores without trials and continued violations.

Al-Qaddafi called on the Arab leaders to get into the streets and lead demonstrations and to declare, even individually their non- commitment to the Beirut's summit which he considered as "surrender decisions."

He added that the Israelis have no future, nor a protection that can be ensured under the American fleet. The Israelis but have to live with us and surrender to us because the power is not by having planes or missiles. It is in the number of people, noting that "the Arabs will total 500 millions while the Jews are 5 million."
