Dubai-Casablanca flight inaugurated sunday
Morocco-United Arab Emirates, Economics, 4/1/2002

The Dubai-Casablanca flight, serviced by Emirates carrier, was inaugurated on Sunday. The flights, to connect the two cities three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, are meant to enhance relations between the two states.

The connection will play a key role in consolidating relations between the two sisterly countries and will contribute to the promotion of Moroccan tourism, said chairman of Emirates carrier, Sheikh Ahmed Ibn Saeed Al Maktoum, upon arrival in Casablanca Sunday afternoon. This new connection will undoubtedly promote United Arab Emirates' investments in Morocco, he said, noting that the flight is being inaugurated on the morrow of the visit King Mohammed VI paid to the UAE (last February). Moroccan minister of transport and merchant navy, Abdessalamn Znined, who greeted the UAE delegation, said the flight will strengthen bilateral cooperation, open Asia's gate to Moroccan products and increase tourists flows to Morocco from the Middle East and Asia.

Morocco grants a special importance to the Arab tourism market in its strategy to attract 10 million tourists by 2010, he said. Emirates' executives said the carrier can increase the number of flights according to demand. They added that the carrier will shortly service another flight towards Africa, namely towards the Sudanese capital city, Khartoum. They did not exclude similar flights at a later date towards central and western Africa. Emirates services 57 destinations in 40 countries.
