Maher: Situation in territories very dangerous
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 4/1/2002

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher Sunday described as very dangerous the current situation in the Palestinian territories, as the Israeli government was acting in a "mindless and criminal" way.

During a meeting with members of the Egyptian-French Businessmen Society, Maher said what is going on is a flagrant aggression that contradicts with all the laws and interests including the interests of Israel itself.

The international stance is very weak, he added, asserting that the direct attack on the premises of the Palestinian leadership could be described simply as conflicting with ethics, justice and any wish for peace.

Such acts can never guarantee the security of Israel because peace is the only means of realizing security, he said, pointing out that Egypt was exerting utmost efforts to halt the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

The head of the Egyptian- French Businessmen Society said the society endorses Egypt's efforts to realize peace in the region, pointing out that the political solution was the only way to resolve the current situation.

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom and Spain in Cairo and a large number of Egyptian and French businessmen and investors and representatives of French companies in Egypt.
