Baz: if Israel seeks regional war it would be the loser
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 4/1/2002
Egyptian Presidential Political Advisor Osama Al-Baz said that Israel would be the losing party, economically, militarily and politically should it seek a regional war in the Middle East.
In a televised interview Saturday night Baz said that Israel was fully aware of that fact.
Baz condemned the Israeli government's attacks on the Palestinian territories and called on Israel to stop what he termed as the arrogance of force and intransigence.
He said that the Israeli government's attitude does not conform with the norms pursued by civilized nations, pointing out that Israel was not willing in any way to approach a final solution to the Palestinian problem.
Baz called upon Israel to end its heinous aggression on the Palestinian people and Leader Yasser Arafat, pull out from Palestinian lands and lift the siege immediately.
Commenting on the telephone contact between President Hosni Mubarak and U.S. President George W. Bush on Saturday, Baz said he believed the U.S. position vis-a-vis events in the Palestinian territories was beginning to improve.
He nevertheless noted that in spite of the fact that the Palestinians have the right to resist occupation, civilians should not be targeted.
