King Mohammed calls for international protection to Palestinian people

Morocco's King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, on Friday decried the invasion by the Israeli occupation forces of Palestinian cities and institutions and called for an international protection to the Palestinian people.

"Following the tragic developments in the Palestinian territories and the invasion by the Israeli occupation forces of Palestinian cities, villages, camps and institutions, with the profanation of the esplanade of the Al-Aqsa Mosque (in Al-Quds), the aggression of worshippers and the shelling of the headquarters of the President of the Palestinian National Authority, Mr. Yasser Arafat, H.M King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, vehemently decries this serious escalation undertaken by the Sharon government, which threatens to blow up the Middle East in a general explosion," the Chairmanship of the Al-Quds Committee said in a release.

The persistence of the Israeli government in military aggressions against the unarmed Palestinian people is a blatant defiance to the Arab will expressed through the Arab peace initiative, unanimously adopted by the leaders of the Arab nation in Beirut, and a blatant violation of the international legality and the resolutions of the United Nations, said the Committee, which stems from the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC, pan-Islamic body, based in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia).

Given the seriousness of the situation, King Mohammed VI urgently calls on the international community, especially the USA and Russia, co-sponsors of the Middle East peace process, as well on influential peace-loving powers, to resolutely and urgently intervene to put an end to the Israeli military invasion and guarantee the protection of the unarmed Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership, under the presidency of Yasser Arafat.

King Mohammed VI also urged the leaders of Islamic countries to double efforts to extend all forms of backing to the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people, under the leadership of President Arafat and to defend the sacredness of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
