Saudi Crown Prince seeks global backing for his initiative
Saudi Arabia-Regional, Politics, 3/28/2002
Israel would be mistaken if it imagined that it could impose an unjust peace on the Arab states by military force, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz told the opening session of the Arab summit Wednesday.
The peace process was based on a clear principle, the land for-peace principle, that was accepted by the whole international community and given shape in un security resolutions 242 and 338 as well as the Madrid conference resolutions in 1991, prince Abdullah said.
The only acceptable result of the peace process is a full Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, the establishment of a Palestinian State and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland, he said.
"Without such a result, the peace process would become a waste of time, a mere word-juggling process and maneuvers leading to a vicious circle of violence," he added.
In a message directed to the Israeli people, the Saudi crown prince said more than fifty years of violence have led to nothing but more destruction, and the Israeli people are still very far from peace and security despite the fact that they are military superior, and despite their attempts to suppress and subjugate the Palestinians.
"It is high time Israel raises its stakes on peace after it had in vain bet on war throughout the past decades.. but it has to be clear to Israel and the whole world that peace and keeping, occupied Arab lands are two parallels that can never meet ,"Abdullah said.
In reference to his peace initiative, the crown prince' he suggested that Israel has normal relations with the Arab well as security in return for full withdrawal from occupied territories, recognition of an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds Jerusalem as it capital and the return of Palestinian refugees, to their homeland.
He called on all friendly countries around the world support the initiative which, he said, was aimed to eliminate danger of a devastating war and achieve peace for all countries| in the region without any exception.
