Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 3/28/2002
Former US secretary of State Colin Powell said that the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz will be meeting with the US President George Bush in April in Washington in order to discuss introducing amendments to the Saudi peace initiative as a beginning to implement it.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Saudi daily al-Watan, Baker explained that the Bush's administration has several reservations on the initiative, like the "right to return," as it is not reasonable that some 4 million Palestinian refugees and other matters relating to normalization, security and the borders.
Baker indicated that the US administration supports the initiative of the Saudi crown prince strongly because it is based on the "land for peace principle" and UN resolutions 242 and 338 and the Madrid's terms of reference.
Worthy mentioning that the Saudi crown prince has recently received an invitation from the US President to visit Washington and he promised to fulfil without setting a date for it.
