Qatar declares legislative elections, and a constitution

The ruler of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani on Tuesday announced that his country will have an elected parliament and this will be in the course of the democratic process taking place in Qatar.

At a conference on "Democracy and Free Trade," the ruler of Qatar said that the higher committee which was formed "has almost completed preparation of a permanent constitution for the country in preparations to hold the first general parliamentary elections in order to choose members of the first legislative council in the history of the country.

The ruler of Qatar, in his speech which was stated by the Qatari news agency, gave no mention to the date one these elections will be held.
