Sabri: Iraq is ready to recognize Kuwait

The Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri has stressed that his country is ready to recognize Kuwait, its independence and border.

In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbal issued on Tuesday Sabri said that the Iraqi- Kuwaiti atmospheres in the preparatory consultations for the summit were good.

He explained that a direct dialogue was made between him and the head of the Kuwaiti delegation, the Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign affairs Sheikh Muhammad Sabah, during the meetings and that the atmosphere of the discussions was constructive and positive.

Sabri said that the chairman of the Kuwaiti delegation is persistent to go back to the past and in particular to August 2nd, 1990. He said: " I told him why should we return back to the wound. Let's look forward and Iraq is ready to recognize Kuwait and its borders and we do not have a problem in this matter. And I am ready to announce this matter before all. So why should we return back to the past."
