Hundreds thousands of Syrians on Sunday morning took the streets of Damascus and gathered at the Damascus Umayyad's square. They called for supporting the Palestinian Intifada and denounced the Israel "terrorist" policy.
The demonstration was attended by high ranking Baath party officials and members of the National Progressive Front ( an alliance of 7 parties rallied with the Baath party in ruling the country), Muslim and Christian Clergy.
The demonstrators denounced Sharon's "terrorist policy" and called on the Arab summit to be held in Beirut on March 27 and 28 to "support the Palestinian Intifada, to lift the siege imposed on the Iraqi people." Among many others some of the raised banners read " we back resistance and condemn terrorism;" " try to war criminal, Sharon;" and " no for the American policy in the Middle East." The chairman of the People's Committee in Syria in support of the Intifada which organized the demonstration, called in a speech he delivered for " rejecting normalization with Israel, for abrogating all agreements signed with Israel against the will of the Arab people."

The demonstrators, sided by the security forces walked calmly for almost five kilometers into the streets of Sanaa before they had stopped in front of the Lebanese embassy in Beirut where they delivered a message to the Lebanese government as Beirut will host the Arab summit to be held this Wednesday and Thursday.
