Arab foreign ministers hold consultations in Beirut

Lebanon continues its preparations to convene the Arab summit in its 14th session at Venecia hotel in downtown Beirut.

Most Arab foreign ministers arrived in Beirut to convene their preliminary meeting in preparation for the summit, amid Arab official assertions and peoples' calls on the summit to come up with decisions that meet the ambitions of the Arab citizens and the challenges facing the Arab nation.

In this context the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on Sunday received the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal in the presence of the Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud.

The Lebanese President also received the secretary general of the African unity in Libya Ali Abdul Salaam al-Tureiki. Al-Tureiki conveyed to the Lebanese President a message of fraternity and support to the support from the Libyan President col. Mu'ammar al-Qaddafi.

The Lebanese prime minister Rafik al- Hariri also received al-Tureiki and discussed with him the agenda of the summit.

Iraq has called on the summit to conclude a united stand states to implement UN resolutions especially those pertinent to Israel's pullout from the Arab territories it occupied in 1967 including Jerusalem, as well as lifting the siege imposed on Iraq's territories and people.

In Beirut, the secretary of the Hizbullah Party Hassan Nasrullah underlined the importance of convening the Arab summit in Beirut.

He called on the Arab leaders to support the Palestinian Intifada, rejecting of normalization with the Zionist enemy and working to restore back all rights including the right of the Palestinian to return back and free the Arab prisoners and detainees held by Israel.

On the other hand, and in the context of preparations for the summit the Kuwaiti foreign minister Sheikh Muhammad Sabah al-Salem al- Sabah, and foreign ministers of Oman and Sudan, Bahrain, Iraq and Yemen arrived in Beirut. Earlier, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal and the official in charge of planning and co-operation in the Palestinian authority Nabil Shaath arrived in Beirut.

On Sunday afternoon, a meeting was held in Beirut including the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal, the Lebanese foreign minister, the Jordanian foreign minister Marwan al-Mashaar, Nabil Shaath and the secretary general of the Arab league AL Amre Mousa.

In their meeting which lasted for 2 and a half hours, the said Arab foreign ministers discussed main issues debated on the agenda of the Arab summit in its 14th session.
