Arab business women conference in Damascus hosted by Syria's first lady

Under the patronage of Syria's First Lady Asmaa al-Akhras, wife of President Bashar al-Assad, Damascus will host on April 21 through 23 the regional seminar on revitalizing the role of women in business administration and economic development at the Damascus conferences palace "Ebla al-Shaam."

The seminar will be organized by industrial businesswomen at the Damascus chamber of commerce with the participation of the Arab business women and Arab and international organizations concerned.

The seminar, which is the first of its kind to be held in Syria, will be attended by business women from Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Qatar, Algeria and Syria.

Through its three- day deliberations, the seminar will have lectures and research papers based on the following four pillars:

1. Surveys (and statistics) on the status of women in countries taking part in the seminar: population- working women percentage, sectors in which women are involved, her work conditions and impediments facing her;

2. Economic development plan and requirements and opportunities of women taking part in them, available projects, planned for projects, work opportunities for women- governments plans in the area in getting women involved actually in economic activity and the country's pan development;

3. Qualifying and training women on how to start ( her own project, business)- training and qualification- reviewing experiences underwent by Arab and foreign states -- drawing examples and proposals for new projects to women;

4. Means of supporting women and facilities that can be provided for her to take part in the development process: financial and banking facilities, legal and administrative legislation, making use of educational centers and supporting exports and promoting for production.

The industrial business women committee has prepared several interventions which highlight the role of the Syrian woman and the gains she has achieved.

On the sideline of the seminar, an exhibition for the Syrian and the Arab industries will be inaugurated. It will exhibit various types of products, at the Ebla al-Shaam hotel.
