Qaddafi may take part in the Arab summit
Libya-Regional, Politics, 3/25/2002

Arab diplomatic sources in Beirut said that a surprise might happen in that the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi will attend the Arab summit in Beirut.

These sources told the Lebanese daily al-Nahar in Saturday's issue that the Libyan President was very impressed by the telephone call the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud made regarding the summit and what his advisor for international affairs Ahmad Qazzaf al-Damm conveyed to him, who also conveyed a message to the Lebanese president just 48 hours earlier.

The sources added that al-Qaddafi delegated Qazzaf al-Damm in a tour which covered Syria, Saudi Arabia and other states in order to explore merging his initiative with that of the Saudi crown prince.

The essence of al-Qaddafi's initiative concentrates on the return of all Palestinian refugees to their homeland. However, the final answers are not available yet. Contacts are continuous among key Arab capitals and the possibility of al-Qaddafi's attending the summit is increasing.
