Egyptian pilots league rejects US report on EgyptAir plane crash
Egypt-USA, Local, 3/23/2002
The Egyptian pilots league objected to the final report of the US National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) on the crash of an EgyptAir plane off the US coasts in October 1999.
"We oppose and reject the report and condemn this attempt by the US to undermine the reputation of Egyptian pilots," the League's Secretary General said.
"Although it did not mention the suicide theory leaked by tile NTSB to the media, the content of the report was no different from the draft announced last year. What has changed is only the form," he added.
He said the league's Council will meet within the next two days with the head of the Egyptian side in the investigative committee to review the report and discuss coordination in the coming stage.
It will be of no use if the American side re-investigates the issue, as they will not release the information and data they possess, which could include clues to tile crash, he added.
We could not reach any conclusion re-investigation because the American side would not touch topics raised by the Egyptian side such as radar images, and wrong analyses of what had been said in cockpit, in addition to the delinquency in security measures at the American airports. The American side would not condemn itself he noted.
