Egyptian panel to challenge US report on plane crash
Egypt-USA, Local, 3/23/2002

An Egyptian investigation committee said Thursday night that it would officially challenge the course of investigations into the ill-fated plane.

An Egyptian pilot, who has headed a team of Egyptian investigators, NTSB Thursday voiced Egypt's objection to a report issued by the NTSB on the causes of the accident.

Mohssen El-Mesiri told a press conference Thursday night said that Egypt will request new probes to reach the actual and exact cause of the Crash.

"Egypt will lodge an official objection within days to the NTSB, including a request for new investigations with better participation on the Egyptian side," he said.

He noted that a French company has formerly objected to the probe conducted by the NTSB and its objection was accepted and a new probe was launched.

He added that the Egyptian team of investigators has strong clues necessitating a new probe, especially as the US investigators had made hasty conclusions at the start of the probe into the crash.

They claimed that the accident was due to the suicide of the co-pilot," he added.

The airliner, which was on a flight from New York to Cairo, plunged into the Atlantic and all 270 people aboard were killed.
