An Arab forum coincides with Beirut's summit

At the invitation of non- governmental Arab organizations for development and the Arab Organization for Human Rights and on the occasion of convening the Arab summit, a forum will be held for the representatives of the civil societies organizations and social movements from various parts of the Arab states in Beirut on March 24 and 26..

The forum will deal with urgent issues pertinent to the region and based on activities conducted by individuals and societies involved in human rights, and enhancing democracy amid the hard conditions our Arab societies face as a result of internal and external difficulties.

The meeting will concentrate on the following: Means of supporting the Palestinian Intifada and achieving Palestinian national independence according to international legitimacy resolutions, especially UN resolutions 242, 338 and 1397 and the right to return back as stated in UN resolution 194.

The participants in the meeting will also discuss prospects of founding a united state on the Palestinian territories that preserves the Palestinian identity and guarantees the freedom of movement; Effective work in order to eliminate the sufferings of the Iraqi people and lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq, rejecting the concept of aggression and seeking to introduce peaceful means for a change under the leadership of people's forces entrusted in the Iraqi people.

Fostering democracy and honoring human rights in various parts of the region, fighting repression, poverty and corruption and protection the rights of minorities and introducing non- violence as a means for the change; lifting the emergency law imposed on the Arab people, releasing all prisoners of opinion and honoring the neutrality of the law and trying those who are responsible for human rights violations especially war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The forum starts on Sunday 24th in a meeting held at the: Steadfast children house at 4.5 p.m. It is attended by families of the victims of the Sabra and Shatilla massacres and the committee in support of the case filed against Sharon in Belgium.

Works of the forum will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Napoleon hotel in al-Hamra street. It will conclude a final statement to be addressed to the Arab summit.
