Danish organization sends ambulance drivers to Palestinian territories
Palestine-Denmark, Politics, 3/23/2002
A Danish non governmental organization for urgent aids of the Danish church has sent 8 drivers and ambulances escorts to the Palestinian territories with the aim to facilitate the move of the ambulances at the Israeli military check-point, according to a statement by the organization on Friday.
The spokesman for the organization Rasmos Petersen said that this group is composed of 6 Danish people and two from Iceland, and in particular includes ambulances drivers. Their mission will be to accompany patients and wounded people to the hospital in East Jerusalem.
The spokesman added " we do believe that those escorts, who do not belong to any of the two sides (the Israeli and the Palestinians) can work to facilitate the crossing of ambulances smoothly through the Israeli military check points. He said that these escorts will submit to us reports on violations of the international agreements on human rights. He hoped that the Danish religious society which works in collaboration with the church council will be able though its presence there to put an end to the long time of waiting of ambulances at the Israeli check points, noting that many Palestinian patients paid their life as a price for waiting and pregnant women were obliged to delivered their babies in front of these check points instead of the hospital.
The Danish organization for urgent aids is known as " Dan Church Aid."
