The Arab summit draft statement
Regional, Politics, 3/23/2002

Lebanese ministerial sources have stated that Lebanon has received from the Arab league the draft of the final statement of the Arab summit in order to study and define its position towards it, so as either to ask for amendments or to approve it.

The sources told the Lebanese daily al-Nahar issued on Friday that the draft falls in 10 pages and is actually based on the resolutions of the recent Amman's summit. It in every paragraph focuses on debated issues and extends a greeting to the Palestinian steadfastness and to the Lebanese resistance. The draft statement also tackles with peace proposals announced by the Libyan President Muaammar al-Qaddafi. The sources added that this draft statement was debated to the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud and the Prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

The sources added that Beirut's statement will be short and falls in one and a half pages and it approves the initiative of the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and greetings the Lebanese national resistance; rejects violation of the Arab security and calls for political dialogue instead of embarking on violence.

The paper indicated that the titles are not final and can be amended.
