Arafat gets several calls from prominent officials

The chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat on Friday received telephone calls from the British prime minister Tony Blair, the secretary general of the UN Kofi Annan, and from the Jordanian foreign minister Marwan al-Mashaar dealt with the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Nabil Abu Rudinah, Arafat's advisor explained that Arafat discussed with Blair latest developments in the Palestinian territories, adding that Blair stressed his backing to the efforts made to rescue the negotiations especially the efforts made by the US General Anthony Zinni, the US delegate to the Middle East.

Arafat reviewed with al-Mashaar and Annan conditions in the Palestinian territories as a result of continued Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian cities and camps and discussed the international efforts made to put an end to these attacks as well as the mission of Gen. Zinni in the region.

On the other hand, the Israeli radio said that the chairman of the Palestinian Authority met in Ramullah on Friday with the Russian envoy for the ME Andre Vidovin and discussed with him the development of conditions in the Palestinian territories.
