Yemen denies military maneuvers with American forces
Yemen-USA, Politics, 3/22/2002

A Yemeni source denied news recently reported by the mass media on arrangements to carry out joint maneuvers between the Yemeni, British and American forces during the three coming months in Hadramout district of Yemen.

The September 26 daily quoted the source as saying that what was stated by certain mass media in this regard is not correct and lacks credibility and that there are no arrangements for such maneuvers.

The source indicated that the arrival date of American military trainers who are scheduled to take part in the training courses for certain units in the Yemeni armed forces, in the framework of bilateral cooperation with the US, has not been set yet.

On the other hand, American experts are holding talks with Yemeni officials to discuss the possibility of resuming providing American warships with fuels at Aden port which witnessed a suicide attack against an American war-ship 18 months ago.

Yemeni sources said that the team which is composed of 15 security and military experts arrived in Yemen earlier this week following the visit of the US Vice President Dick Cheney during which the US vice president held talks with the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the framework of a tour on the Middle East.

In the same context the Yemeni news agency Sabaa said on Thursday that a local naval company won a contract to provide supply and naval services to German warships anchored in Baher al-Arab (al-Arab Sea).
