Jordan: scores arrested for support of Intifada; anti corruption
Jordan, Politics, 3/22/2002
The Arab organization for human rights in Jordan announced that the Jordanian authorities have arrested tens of young Jordanians and put them in al-Jweida prison because of their participation in demonstrations supporting the Palestinian Intifada.
In a statement, the organization said that the security side in Jordan prevented last Thursday a sit-in calling for the release of former parliament member Toujan al-Faisal who was arrested because she wrote an article on "government corruption."
The organization added that "Taysir Sharrouf -- a member of the anti Zionism and racism commission-- was summoned by the Jordanian general intelligence last Monday and he has not returned back yet."
