Czech soldiers headed for Kuwait
Kuwait-Czech Republic, Politics, 3/21/2002
The Czech daily Lidovi Novini said that the Czech soldiers who left several days ago to Kuwait will stand in support of the UN in the second phase of its war against international terrorism which will be this time against Iraq.
The paper added in its commentary that the current Czech participation will be in contrary to the first one 11 years ago in the second Gulf war because this will be long, strategic and the main role to be played in it is a "muscle flexing" and political talks.
To this end, the Czech communist party refused the Czech government sending military units to Kuwait and Afghanistan.
The communist member at the Czech parliament Vatslav Franc said in a statement to the "Hello Novini" paper that his party strongly rejects sending Czech forces to the two countries ( Kuwait and Afghanistan) due to the grave conditions in the world after the US President George Bush threatened to use nuclear weapons against China and North Korea.
