A women sit in in solidarity with Palestinian women observed in Damascus
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 3/21/2002

The Arab women committee in Syria in support of the Intifada on Wednesday observed a sit in before the UN office in Damascus in protest of the "Zionist crimes " against the Arabs in the occupied territories and in support of the Palestinians and their heroic uprising.

The women organizations which took part in the said in raised Palestinian flags and banners calling protection for the Palestinian people and stressing that the Intifada will continued until the Palestinian rights are attained.

The participants in the sit in handed over a statement, addressed to the UN chief Kofi Annan, handed to the UNDP resident representative in Damascus. The statement strongly denounces the acts of killing and random destruction of the operations conducted by the Israeli authorities against the Arab citizens in the occupied territories and the military and economic siege, the collective punishment and the brutal attacks against the Palestinian cities and villages in the West Bank and Gaza.

The statement stressed that Israel's continued occupation of the Arab territories in Palestine, the Golan and Lebanon are considered a flagrant violation to UN resolutions and a grave threat to peace and security in the region.

The statement also stressed the need of practicing pressures on Israel to halt its bloody massacres immediately to protect the Palestinians and end the Israeli occupation and subject Israel's nuclear weapons to the International monitoring committee.

The women took part in the sit in also addressed another statement to the UN chief voicing solidarity of the women organization in Syria with the Iraqi people and called on the Arab national forces and international circles to lift the siege imposed on Iraq.
