Al-Refai: Syria is ready for a balanced partnership with European Union

The minister of the economy and foreign trade Ghassan al-Refai on Wednesday stressed Syria's readiness for a balanced and gradual partnership with the European Union. He said that this partnership will be effective and it would be real.
On the works of the Euro- Mediterranean conference in which he took part in Toledo, al-Refai underlined the importance of maintaining an agreement on the certificate of origin and services because these are among the main issues for the Arab right because services include tourism, transport and important sectors which were not included within the confines of the Euro- Mediterranean partnership before.
The Syrian minister indicated the importance of establishing of a Euro- Mediterranean Bank as sought by the Spanish Presidency at Barcelona summit last Saturday. The idea which receded to the interest of the investment bank to allocate a sum of 2000 million EUROS until 2006 to support the investments and to revitalize private sectors.
The Syrian minister added that a timetable was approved to follow up this matter.
