Al-Assad- Mubarak discuss challenges, dangers the Arab nation faces

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife on Wednesday visited Cairo and held a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during which existing conditions in the Middle East were reviewed and the challenges facing the Arab woman towards this " critical phase of the national history of the Arab nation."

Al-Assad also met with several Egyptian intellectuals, writers and men of letters.

In conclusion of the visit a statement was released in which President Mubarak and President al-Assad stressed their commitment to solid principles to achieve the national security, and just and comprehensive peace in the region, according to the legal terms of reference and the policy approved by the international society provided for ending the Israeli occupation of all occupied Arab territories.

The two presidents welcomed the increasing international support to the right of the Palestinians to liberating their territories and establishing their own independent state with Jerusalem as a capital, as well as the return back of the Palestinian refugees. They indicated the positive spirit which was reflected in the initiative proposed by the Saudi crown prince. An initiative which constitutes a confirmation to the inclination of the Arab states towards attaining a just and comprehensive peace.

The two Presidents stressed the need of honoring the sovereignty and integrity of the Iraqi territories and alleviating the sufferings of the Iraqis.

The two Presidents stressed their determination to commit to solid principles in order to achieve national security and just and comprehensive peace in the region, according to the legal and political references approved by the international community provided for ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories as a basic precondition to achieve peace. It states Israel's complete withdrawal from the territories it occupied since June 5, 1967 in Palestine, the Golan and the region and the area which is still occupied by Israel in south Lebanon and that Israel will abide itself by complete withdrawal according to UN security council resolutions concerned, the land for peace formula, especially UN resolutions 242, 338 and 425.

The two President recorded their welcome to the increasing international support for the right of the Palestinian people to liberating their lands and " East Jerusalem " as its capital and attaining security for all as well as guaranteeing the return back of the Palestinian refugees according to UN resolution 194.

The two Presidents called on Israel to suspend all oppressive practices it uses of using power to terrify the Palestinians and preventing them from resisting the occupation.

They commended the steadfastness of the Palestinian people against the Israeli practices which are in contradiction with the rules of the international legitimacy and the international law principles.

The two presidents remarked the positive spirit reflected by the initiative proposed by the Saudi crown prince.

The two presidents expressed their confidence that Kings and presidents of the Arab states will discuss these issues and many others with a great sense of historical responsibility and the care to preserve the sublime national objectives and adherence to principles previously approved by Arab summit resolutions every where in order to achieve the ambitions of the Arab nation.
