Ebeid highlights cooperation between government and citizens

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid yesterday stressed the importance of cooperation between citizens and the government to overcome challenges facing national action in the coming stage
He called for use of science and technology to overcome challenges and realize progress on every inch of the land of Egypt.
Addressing a popular rally in the upper Egyptian governorate of Menya Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that foremost among the challenges facing us is to realize peace based on justice in the Middle East area and provide security and stability for all.
He pointed out that the flow of investments and realizing economic prosperity depend on stability, peace and security.
"This will be realized as a result of the fruitful efforts of President Hosni Mubarak," he said.
Ebeid said that the government supports those who need help "the weak and those who are unable to make a living." the umbrella of social insurance covered one million families last year.
The government will provide pensions to poor families. He underlined the importance of the role of women in society.
The government has succeeded in providing places for 50 per cent of girls in basic education "because women are half of the society ".
Ebeid said the government will increase expenditure to raise investments and productions, provide more job opportunities and activate markets.
He explained that the annual state budget amounts to 130 billion pounds allocated to several sectors including maintaining the capabilities of the armed forces strengthening national security and consolidating the police forces to realize internal stability and security which encourages-investments.
The government subsidizes basic commodities such as the bread, sugar, edible oil, butane gas, drinking water, electricity, railways, public transport, roads, education.
"Potable drinking water has been supplied to all villages and the sanitary drainage network will be extended to reach all parts of Egypt at a cost of 40 billion pounds," he said.
All villages have been supplied with electricity and economic activity (agriculture, industry) increased.
Total investments in the electricity sector in the past 20 years amounted to 120 billion pounds.
He said that Menya governorate "which is called the bride of upper Egypt" has promising potentials for archaeological sites tourism. Nile navigation from Alexandria to Aswan will be developed at a cost of 150 million pounds.
Ebeid opened a number of services and production projects in Menya governorate which were carried out at a cost of 250 million pounds including a telephone exchange with a capacity of 30000 lines for the new Menya City and a drinking water station.
Ebeid laid the foundation stone of a dried crops factory, whose investments hit LE 150 million, and Media Men City that includes 700 housing units.
