Two new political parties born in Morocco
Morocco, Politics, 3/18/2002
Two new political parties were officially recognized by the authorities, as Morocco is readying for next September's legislative elections.
The Moroccan Liberal Party (PLM) was authorized one year after it held its constitutive congress. It is chaired by Mohamed Ziane, a former human rights minister.
In Casablanca, the "Alliance of Liberties" held its constituent congress on Saturday. According to chairman of the new party's provisional coordination committee, Ali Belhadj, it is a modern and democratic party that will be endeavoring to involve the youth and women in political action. The party pledges to support and encourage all democratization efforts being undertaken by King Mohammed VI.
