Additional three private publications licensed in Syria
Syria, Politics, 3/16/2002

News reports in Damascus said that the Syrian Cabinet licensed the Syrian specialist in insurance affairs Abdul Latif Abboud to issue what will be considered the third private periodical in Syria while the ministry of information submitted the request proposed for licensing two additional private periodicals for approval.

Well-informed sources said that both Mrs. Zeina Kheir and Bilal al-Turkmani received the consent of the ministry of information to issue papers. The sources explained that Mrs. Kheir will issue an entertainment advertisement paper under the name of "al-Waseet" (the Broker) while the second al-Turkmani will have a cynical paper under the name of "Abyad and Aswad" (Black and White). Abdul Latif Abboud, on the other hand received the consent of the Syrian Cabinet to release a specialized periodical in the realm of "insurance and development." According to the Syrian printing law, the consent of the prime minister is the decisive element to issuing licenses.

Worthy mentioning that during the two past years two private papers were licensed in Syria. The first is al-Doumari for renowned Syrian caricaturist Ali Farzat and al-Iqtesadeyah specialized in economic affairs.
