Lahoud: UN resolution 1397 is vague

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on Thursday criticized the decision taken by the UN security council no 1397 and considered it as vague, according to a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency. The statement added that this resolution is controversial.

During his meeting with a delegation representing the participants in a conference dedicated to support the Palestinian Intifada held in Beirut, the Lebanese president said that the UN resolution no. 1397 which was issued by the UN Security Council on Wednesday is very general and vague, besides it is not in conformity with previous resolutions.

He explained that the lack of clarity in previous UN resolutions in the past resulted in wrong interpretations and a controversy which still continues until our present time. Lahoud considered that the new resolution will increase the controversy because it bears more than one explanation, and also it does not make a distinction between Israel which is the aggressor and the Palestinian people who have been exposed to a fierce attack increasing daily.

The Lebanese president stressed that ending the Arab Israeli conflict should be built on the ground of implementing UN resolutions fully, noting that ignoring the content of these resolutions and trying to replace them by other vague ones, all but a test for the credibility of the UN.
