Survivors of Polisario jails get strong backing in Sweden
Morocco-Sweden, Politics, 3/14/2002
The Association of the Survivors of the Tindouf (south-western Algeria) Jails (ASOCAPOS) has won a strong backing in Sweden where a solidarity committee with the association was set up.
The Committee, based in the city of Karlstad, will stage campaigns to defend the rights of the Moroccan Sahrawis forcibly detained by the Polisario separatists in the Algerian desert rear base of Tindouf, a spokesman for the Committee told MAP news agency.
The Committee musters Swedish journalists, businessmen and civil society activists.
The body endorses the objectives for which ASOCAPOS strives, especially fostering international awareness of the dismal situation of the Moroccan Sahrawis detained by the Polisario gang with the backing and approval of the Algerian regime.
Relatedly, the victims of the Polisario human rights abuses have recently set up an association in the Moroccan southern city of Laayoune.
The association, chaired by Dahi Kay, will seek to unveil to the Moroccan and international public opinion the ordeals these victims underwent because of the Polisario dictatorial and tyranny-like rule.
The association said it will spare no effort to show to the whole world the consequences of Algeria's hegemonic proposal to partition the Moroccan southern provinces. The proposal, mentioned in the latest report of United Nations Secretary-General on the Sahara, will separate whole families, the association warned.
